Intervention

Intervention is a well planned and highly structured effort by family, friends, and colleagues to intervene on behalf of a person suffering from drug addiction or alcoholism.

The primary purpose of drug and alcohol intervention is to break the cycle of addiction through planned and caring confrontation.

It is often said that addiction is a disease of denial. Addicts and alcoholics often unconsciously deny the frightening and seemingly hopeless nature of their condition. This is a mental defense similar to the denial that sometimes occurs with other life-threatening diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and obesity.

Intervention has proven to be one of the best ways to break through the defense of denial and help the addict or alcoholic confront the true nature of their condition. It is often a difficult process, but with the right amount of loving concern and honest discussion it can be the first step toward a new life of freedom and happiness.

Summit Malibu does not provide intervention services because doing so would be a conflict of interest.

The desired outcome of intervention is for the addicted individual to accept the best treatment available for their own individual circumstances, and Summit Malibu recognizes that, while we believe our program is one of the best, it is not always the right choice for everyone.

We do, however, work with a variety of highly qualified and fully independent interventionists, and we will be happy to refer you to these individuals as well as other independent referral sources.
